Man'yoshu is the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry from 4th to 8th century and is said to complete in the late 8th century, containing more than 4,500 poems by a diverse group of poets from emperors to peasants. The poems express beliefs about nature, family and love during a period when Japan was struggling to establish its identity. In this TV series, distinguished personalities of various nationalities who treasure the world of Man'yoshu, from poets, writers and historians to painters, musicians, actors, astronomers, and researchers on cookery present one poem from Man'yoshu a day, which consequently creates a new video anthology of Man'yoshu. This is the first TV project that sheds light on Man'yoshu from various fields of expertise and angles.
